Looking for that real ramen experience?

Looking for that real ramen experience? From airport to Ramen Ago-go in Kamazawa, Japan. When you go for a treat, leave your guilt behind. Even if you know one bowlful is about 350 calories. Did you know that there are 2 kinds of ramen preparations? The hand-made kind and the processed instant variety. To avoid a whopping 1,700 calories of sodium from the instant version, go for the home-made offering. The authentic ramen is made with a special alkaline water which makes the noodles chewy. And the message is in the broth. Always eat when you are in a good mood. I was. That’s why I could not erase the delight from my face. Look! Vegetarian ramen! www.coryquirino.com#iamcoryquirino #eatright #ramen #carbs #comfortfood #hotsoup

Staying cool

The Summer heat wave is here. With expected temperatures to range from 40-43 degrees centigrade, the danger warning is urgent- Stay hydrated. Seek protection from the scorching sun. Always have an umbrella on hand. Drink 2-3 liters of water daily. If you drink 12-15 glasses of water, even better. Dehydration causes headaches, palpitations, loss of energy and strokes. Do not take this advise lightly.

On Dieting

Here’s my truth. I don’t believe in dieting. Simply put, the word ‘diet’ connotes deprivation. And nobody should ever be miserable on any diet plan. Besides, it will never be effective.
The best way to keep trim is to be wise in your food choices. And the simple key is moderation. Just don’t be driven to excess in anything.
Opt for organic and fresh. Eat more greens. Cut back on the carbohydrates and sugar. You can have 5-7 small meals daily. This is healthier for you because it guarantees a more steady metabolism.

Sun Gazing

Would you believe it if I told you that sun-gazing or sun-eating has been around for 2,000 years? It is a yogic Indian practice that claims health benefits. The conditions are: You must be barefoot on the grass or ground, gaze directly at the sun,  the time you gaze is sunrise or sunset, gazing time is only 10 seconds.
Claimed health benefits include: improved vision and sleep, clearer mind, increased vitality and improved mood among others.
Sunning is looking at the sun with  eyes closed. It is deemed just as beneficial as gazing with eyes open. Fair warning- staring directly at the noonday sun may damage your eyes due to exposure to ultra-violet radiation.
For starters, get under a shady old tree and look up at the sky , not the sun. It’s a good start.

Move it!

Yes, it’s true. If you don’t move it, you lose it. Do you know that 200 leg muscles are involved in order to keep your legs moving at a regular pace?
Weak leg muscles can affect your knees and hip movement . Make sure that you engage in resistance training. Try the leg press, like I am doing. Start with light weights then move on to about 30 lbs. There’s more. You will end up with shapelier legs. www.coryquirino #iamcoryquirino #moveit #legs

Summer Coolers

It’s simmering outside and you have this need to keep cool. Ok, I have a secret. You can drink that fruity summer cool minus the guilt. But here’s the trick. Look for the beverages using fresh fruit, not the processed kind. This way, you can watch your calories. Fresh fruit has natural sugar . When consumed, it is kinder to the body by not raising your blood sugar as quickly as processed table sugar would. PS. Skip the whipped cream topping to preserve the waistline.   #iamcoryquirino #staycool

Summer fun

Yes, you can be carefree again. You should, actually. So when was the last time you got your feet wet? Do you  know that water has a calming effect on the body and the mind? Let go of your heavy baggage. Lighten up. And jump in. The water is fine. And so are you. #iamcoryquirino # foreveryoung #summerfun

Taking Comfort

Believe it or not, there is a strong connection between emotions and food. Emotional eaters are triggered by anger, sadness or frustration to take comfort in food. When this happens, there is no place for dieting. In order to overcome this dilemma, always be truthful with yourself. Conscious awareness helps. So, the next time you are seized with hunger pangs, ask yourself “Am I eating because of physical hunger or a psychological need?”  #iamcoryquirino #eatwell #comfortfood

Eat right

There is a rule one must observe to ensure good digestion. Eat the raw before the cooked. Did you know that raw veggies takes 20-35 minutes digestion time while the cooked version takes 40-120 minutes. So, when faced with a choice, remember to eat uncooked vegetables first before anything else. www.coryquirino.com #iamcoryquirino #digestion #eatright
